I think a problem is pinpointed by the frequent description in the article of the aim of the left as being to promote an 'anti-capitalist' agenda/message. Therein lies the limitation of movements defined as an objection towards something else: in visual terms objection is represented via images of people objecting, i.e. waving placards, raising fists, stuff associated with being 'empowered' etc.. This is dull in the extreme and to me feels dated, belonging to prior decades but not the media-savvy environment we inhabit now and that young people take for granted. Furthermore, to anyone unsympathetic to a particular cause it's easy, in fact natural to write protesters off as angry nutters. The tradition of chanting slogans is not something I'm keen on either: as Andy Warhol made a career of pointing out if you want something to be ignored repeat it mechanically.
The aesthetics of the left should be primarily formed around the progressive and optimistic visions of a world beyond the current system. The main part of change is where we're heading; communication strategies should reflect that instead of being based around the 'empowerment' of objecting, and postures that lend themselves to being written of as irrationally hostile.
