Lander is not really from the left but represents the heinous interests of the old ruling class or Venezuelan bourgeoisie shot out of power by the poor voting for Chavez. You have to remember that the revolutionary left wing in Venezuela which was involved in the guerilla movements of the 1960's and 1970's were pacified and "bought off" by the 1970's Caldera government and then took part in local politics but were actually financed by the ruling ewlites then in government. This is the ilk Lander represents - dishonest and self-seeking - along with other famous guerrillas such as Teodoro Petkoff and Pompeyo Marquez. These epople live really well and criticize Chavez since he has attained power democratically and ironically is implementing the ideals and policies they never could. It is part of the Latino disease called "envy".

Lander's interview is the standard twisted logic of the Venezuelan right wing opposition - before they criticized the alleged bias of the National Electoral Council and now they say that the system should be 100% proportional representation. They know that the system does not work like that but participated all the same in the parliamentary elections and then complain when they supposedly got 52% of the vote which is in fact irrelevant in these elections when most of the deputies wre elected on a named, first past the post sysytem and not from "proportional party lists".

Lander's idea that there is "unease" within Chavismo is a reflection of how he is influenced by the bourgeois thought and general stance of the Venezuela private media, still owned and run by the old oligarchy. The geat mass of Venezuelans do not have any unease with Chavismo sinc ein the last 12 years political power, respources and a higher standard of living has been shifted over the claases D and E which is where the opposition cannot make hardly any gains.

Lander's opinions are at best misconceived and at worst paid for by the imperialists who still dictate Venezuelan opposition policy mainly in Caracas and Maracaibo.-
