Thanks for the post. Most informative.

I heard/ read recently that the 'legally binding move to reduce emissions by 80% by 2050' are dependent upon our European partners agreeing to similar commitments. Unfortunately I cannot recall where I got this from. I've written to my MP asking if there are any get-out-clauses on what they are touting as a 'legally-binding commitment', and I'm awaiting a response...

Allotments: "...they have just launched a campaign to remove the legal duty for local authorities to provide allotments..." ! Unbelievable. Have you got a source for this? If this is what they're planning, it's... well, it's astonishing. This government's claims to be the 'greenest government ever' sound ever more hollow.

As for public transport: I've lost track of how many decades we've been promised positive moves on this by left and right, and yet the situation never gets any better - and of course it's currently getting far worse. To my mind this is a classic illustration of the failure of our 'democratic' government system: the politicians do not implement the will of the people, they simply follow their own ideologies once we've ceded them power.

A good summary of the current state of play around energy policy and a good call to arms on some of the hidden "reforms" of the coalition government, particularly around the sweeping away of local authority duties around environmental protections, under the smart guise of reducing bureaucracy and cost-savings. Decimating decades of carefully argued for safeguards by the backdoor - right now, the Green Party and our allies amongst the environmental movement need to make exposing this as one of our principal aims.
