Folks don't seem to realise the desperate intent with which Thatcher endeavoured to sever her connections to the "working population", or the "working or middle class".

She was so utterly taken with her personal version of her "upper-class" standing that she even resorted to the "queenly" "we" when she admitted that "we" had become a grandmother, upon the birth of her first grandchild.

Maggie Thatcher was never anything else but a nominally gifted person raised to riches and who wanted to impress her less than impressive character on the rest of society in order to chivvie up lucrative orders for the financial friends who supported her. As far as the vast majority of Brits is/are concerned, she was a massive failure.
