The estate agents appointed by Hackney Council sold off commercial properties worth £225 million for just £70 million, the majority of which went to offshore developer cartels. A campaign to save Broadway Market was initiated.

One of the threatened properties was Tony’s Cafe, which had been running from the same building for 30 years. Tony repeatedly tried to buy it from Hackney Council but he was passed over in favour of a wealthy developer. This happened to many tenants. A campaign

What a shame!! Forced relocation is not fair for those living in their buildings!

The same thing has happened with the upcoming 2014 Games in Sochi. The ROC, IOC and Russian authorities are demolishing buildings without consent, many times intimidating those living in the building to flee on spot!!

Circassians the original inhabitants of Sochi can't even return there. I really don't understand what has happened with the Olympics.. seems like a huge downgrade of a legacy. Shame Shame.

I am an expat. Londoner, living in Australia for 30 plus years, but still take a keen interest in what is happening to my native city. I have been alarmed by very recent media reports from our ABC network here (public broadcaster) about the Hays Lane/ Hackney Wick relocations-old but new news! I rang the Hackney council and left my details but they seemed a bit disinterested about the issue. I also note the building on the Marshes that looks like a half- baked souffle! (Olympic bike racing velodrome ?). Dismayed at Ken and Boris roadshow... Best wishes with your campaign.
