I can't help but question these events myself. I've known about the joint US/SoKo doing military tests, with the clear intention of provocation. They make the minor news every year, but no one seems to notice.

Tensions do escalate at intervals, it usually happens by the book. US and South Korea fly their big shiny planes extremely close to the DMZ, and do parachute landings on the beaches etc, etc. North Korea feel provoked enough to say something outrageous and act petulantly, at which point they begin to look like raving lunatics, acting like this for no reason because the tests aren't shown, or at least not for what they are.

I admire Tim Beal for looking closer at the run of events and noticing this. As for why they make this happen. After living in Korea for a while and reading around this issue and talking to people, I've found that Koreans don't view their country as torn in half, with a tragic past. Far from it, they would do anything to stop reunification, their economy would collapse.

Wouldn't a permanent state of stalemate be the best course of action?

Sorry for the rant.
