(Sorry for the bad english)

The activist Sá Ferreira did not said some relevant facts about the Left Bloc: Supporting the Socialist Party (Right Wing w/ a left name)in the last presidential campaign was a major flaw and broke a lot of voters support for the Left Bloc; The Left Bloc MP's in the European Parliament did not oppose the Libya invasion as one can read from their own articles in their website (esquerda.net); the Left Bloc and the PCP are not giving the correct feedback to the mass, the people really want a left wing coalition between this both parties.

In my opinion, the major problem is not the media or the meeting with the IMF (nobody from the left movements in Portugal really hope anything from them). The real problem is the lack of a real left/socialist response from Left Bloc and Communist Party, we can see in their speeches and official papers (specially in the Left Bloc case) the delibarate omission of a Socialist program. They can keep trying to gain some votes from the PS, but since the PS is a real right wing party, they are clearly going to the bad direction...

The important point is the recognition that leaving the euro would be a cure worse than the disease. That idea was never more than an aspect of the Wall St scam, intended to let the speculators cash in on their credit default swaps. Equally, the Left Bloc got only 5% in the recent election and lost half its seats in parliament, which reminds us that such groupings are condemned to be marginal gadflies, capable of making noise and causing minor mischief from time to time but little else. Thus, the best they can hope for is to come up with good (and realistic!) ideas that are then stolen by the major parties! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, they say!
I would caution, therefore, against the illusion that there is going to be an overnight transformation of the political landscape in any European country. A new ideology for the 21st century is certainly in the building among the young generation and it will be built on the heritage of 20th century socialism but it will be something more than mere socialism. The ongoing collpase of the American dinosaur gives us hope for the realtively near future but the changes will come slowly.
