I think It fails to disclose political reasons(such as unemployment) which lead individuals to become/remain impoverished. To depict them as pure criminals is to disregard all social oppression brought on by discriminative policies, enforcement and social stigma. As the stigmatisation of underclass people (especially in ethnic minorities) increases and until all forms of discrimination cease this will continue to cause disenchantment in people.
