The new EPR reactors are untried and untested. The two prototypes in Finland and France are millions over budget and years behind schedule. Greenpeace has just published a report exposing the myths about safe ‘new nuclear’ (The EPR Nuclear Reactor: a dangerous waste of time and money).

The truth is we don’t need nuclear power to keep the lights on. Germany has just committed itself to creating a nuclear-free future that is sustainable and affordable. The government is proposing to use a bridging technology called CHP until there is enough renewable energy to take the full load. With smart grids and super grids channeling renewable energy around Europe, there is a greener future ahead. We just need political leaders with vision and courage – something we’re severely lacking in this country.
