The current politics of Greece is not only not practical. It's nuts. To hand over to the psychopaths' stooges the reigns of power is insane. What the hell!

Give it a rest. "It's time" as Austrailan Labor put it in its winning 1972 federal election campaign.

The Communists aren't going to lose ground if the people wake the hell up. The media are pushing a line of BS to pull the wool over people's eyes. Oh, and dropping the euro is the only solution to get the albatross off the backs of the Greek people. The whole single currency project if it ever were any good is now the big banking crowd's tool for the worst form of despotism.

The unions, their supporters, and the Communists are talking sense to the people. That's true in a lot of the rest of the European Union.

The European Central Bank source of the probllem! Hold the swine accountable. Put the power where it should be in the people's parliament and in the hands of the people. "Power to the people" as Thomas Paine once said.

There is no such thing as indviduals outside any society. We are all part of the human family. And the cause of the Greeks is the cause of all humanity.

lol kenny
So, for one thing, it makes sense that if major union bodies are heavily invested in Pasok, they would push as hard as they could for Pasok's continued rule. It's the same with the AFL-CIO and the Democrats, here in the US.

As for your inability to conceive of capitalism being challenged, or even defeated... that's a separate issue.

Describing the current measures as "a testbed for neoliberal fantasists" is wildly exaggerated and diverts from the main issue, namely, the attempt by a section of Wall St to crush the EU under its jackboot. Of their very nature, the present measures can only be short term and focussing narrowly on them diverts from the question of where to go from here. An interesting point is that the polls for the 6 May election (they're in Wikipedia) show Pasok's support steadily rising. In the cold light of day, people realise that the far left is incapable of governing a country and the communists are (increasingly elderly) has-beens. The likely outcome seems to be the re-election of the present coalition and people want a strong Pasok component to keep ND in line. The communist idea of abandoning the euro or leaving the EU is, as has often been demonstrated, absurd. It wouldn't reduce Greece's debt by a single cent and would probably increase it in real money terms. Equally, Argentina, 10 years after its default, is still being sued in the American courts by creditors and is unable to borrow money on the international markets. That makes any kind of Keynesian or socialist economic policy impossible. Thus, the least of all the evils seems to be to soldier on for another year or two while the EU slowly converts Greece's debt from a debt to private banks to a debt to EU funds or the IMF, which can be written off, in whole or in part, without too much difficulty. Thus, the weakness in Mr Nunns' article is that he is too locked in to his blinkered marxist ideological "theorems". A pragmatic, problem-solving, approach is much more reasonable.
