If people say that immigrants are taking away ‘our’ jobs, they are already interpreting the world in nationalist or racist terms (‘us’ vs. ‘them’), assuming that they are entitled to a job because of their nationality, race etc. So immigration itself isn’t the reason why people are makings such statements, but nationalist and racist attitudes.
