Briefly there is an European dimension to the kind of action taken against the Irish Travellers. Moreover the official account of the Operation Cabinet is to be found in the website(Essex Police.uk)along with a letter from the chief Constable to an editor of a regional newspaper and an informative and reassuring FAQ page both of which are out of step with the the huge and costly operstion described-perhaps the most extravagant and expensive outdoor exercise ever undertaken by the constabulary in living memory in this part of East Anglia since the days when Nuns were said to be parachuting into Norfolk during the war,

People need to realize that travellers are human beings and should be treated as equally as non travellers. It's disgusting and shamefull to treat them as outcasts and to view them as any less than themselves. We should all learn to live as one.Travellers, I fully support you.

Hello to Elly Robson and thanks to Red Pepper. Here you have testimony of the direct kind and not the incredibly biased rants that appeared in the British Press for months...even whilst the eviction was taking place.I was moved by this account because it echoed the feelings of frustration I felt in the summer of '85 when hundreds of paramilitary police ambushed the Peace Convoy in Wiltshire.I was one of many volunteers standing by to give welfare assistance at the time of the Solstice. If you look at the stories on Utube you will see that they were crying out for help.It was before mobile phones were available and their cries went unheeded.I didnt get the full picture until the Observer(who had some men imbedded in the convoy)produced a full feature two weeks later.
The combatants who wore no identifying numbers were recruited from six counties at a cost of £800,000 !
