Hello Lynn - thanks for taking the time to post a comment. There are a few websites related to Cherán which I can dig out and post up for you but I don't think the village itself sets itself up in that way on the web.

You are right there is lot to be impressed with and to learn about in relation to democratic working, mutuality and sustainability - things that have been part of their culture for centuries.

They were keen for me to talk and share things about Cherán when I spoke to them. So I think one kind of solidarity that is important is to talk about these and other developments indigenous people are engaged in and spread knowledge.

I asked the same question when I was there in terms of what I or others can do in solidarity (can I buy 'Cherán honey, or sign the petition, or join this or that - but they are not really set up for things like that. They looked at me kindly and with great interest but it was not something they knew easily how to answer - I think they don't particularly organise in that way although they are aware of the international implications of their activity.

I will ask a friend who works with indigenous people for his take on this. It is a good question and thanks so much for your interest.

great article but can you suggest practical ways in which solidarity can be shown to these people ie any support groups or do they have a website?
i enjoy reading about the work of indigenous peoples as they are really showing the way forward in terms of creating sustainable and decent ways of living. i'd love to be able to help them, if only in a small way.
