What we don't seem to hear enough about from the 'Professional Left', ie. paid members of the Labour Establishment and affiliated bodies, is what we should do about the people that have created the so called 'Austerity' to begin with. If the bankers were forced to pay back all the public money they wasted, whether deliberately or not is still a matter for debate, the need for 'Austerity' would be considerably diminished. The reason why I have chosen to use inverted commas here is because the 'Austerity' of the masses is not the 'Austerity' of the bankers, whose Bonus Culture is still alive and kicking and being further supplemented by tax cuts. In Scotland those who invested in RBS shares and lost heavily as a result have chosen to sort the matter out in the courts. Wouldn't it be responsible for the supposed Labour 'Government in Waiting' to be thinking along these lines? Or is Mr. Balls still in some way involved with the people who created this mess to begin with?

In Bristol the mayor is giving up his salary but paying himself in Bristol Pounds. They've set up a credit union so you can have an account and businesses can pay their rates in the local currency. Why aren't more people doing this? You could avoid the cuts by paying charities, the arts, libraries with local money.
