Michael, although I agree with you on a number of issues reg: the airlines, why should we be on a no- fly list? We were travelling truthfully and peacefully. It was Israel who in fact contacted over 17 airlines accusing us of being hooligans and terrorists. I was interrogated at Luton airport by two officials, one whom I discovered later was in fact working for the Israelis, and our govermment is complicit in this. I think we should all wake up to the WEB that israel has covering the globe.

Also we have a right to travel and to meet our friends the Palestinians. We were officially invited for a week of cultural activities. We intended to tell the truth as to our visit, no lies! Israel destroyed the only airport that the Palestinians had. We have a right to travel honestly and freely, this is why we went to Tel-Aviv. Many people who travel via Egypt have a long, long wait, sometimes for days, as the borders are controlled by Israel and Egypt. Hopefully due to political changes in Egypt things will ease in future. We don’t stop Israeli entering through our airports why should they stop us????

Pretty good reporting, however I was one of the UK nationals who joined hundreds of internationals last July, and I and many internationals were held and detained at Ben Gurion airport..passports were with- held detained and attacked by Israel soldiers when we refused to be led out one by one. Were sent on to Givon high security prison, where we were held in inhuman conditions (toilet was a hole in the floor) food fed through letterbox in cell doors that held 6 women in each cell etc: for 23 hours a day, Most of us internationals were held for 5 days the welsh contingent held till last with one German woman who held out so that she could go through israeli court to give a reason for our imprisonment. None so far has been given. Letters to the FCO and my MP Paul Flynn Newport West has gained absolutely nothing.

As the first sentence of the article makes clear, it is not the airlines that blocked people from travelling. All airlines, all over the world, are required to ensure that the passengers they carry have the necessary papers to disembark at their destination. If they do not, the airline is require to transport them back to their point of origin at the airline’s expense. Thus, if someone is on a country’s no-fly list, no airline on earth will carry them to that country. The whole fiasco is (yet another!) PR disaster for Israel, all the more so as the list seems to have been drawn up very sloppily, but blaming the airlines, or claiming that Israel controls Europe’s borders is just plain silly.
