Radical arts, artists and music

  • Billy Bragg
Comprehensive web site of singer songwriter and political activist Billy Bragg.
  • Love Music Hate Racism
Love Music Hate Racism was launched in the summer of 2002 in response to rising levels of racism and British National Party electoral success, particularly in the north west in former mill towns like Burnley.
  • Poets Against the War
International site featuring poetry from all over the world expressing opposition to war, especially those in Iraq and Palestine. Also campaigns for an open and radical literary tradition and against the appropriation of literature by warmongers.
  • The Centre for Political Song
’The Centre for Political Song. We exist to promote and foster an awareness of all forms of political song; an appreciation of the role of political song in the social, political and cultural life of communities; and to facilitate research in all relevant areas of study. The Centre itself remains free from any political bias in its collecting and organisational policies.’
  • Seven magazine
Magazine for politically conscious men and women with an interest in the international arts.
  • The Left Field Coop
’The Left Field kicked off as part of the Glastonbury Festival in June 2002. The concept of the area was to reaffirm the spirit of political debate at the festival, with a focus on international workers solidarity: to convey to young people the collective strength of being a member of a trade union. From the War in Iraq to the Fire Fighters strike in the UK, recent events have brought this issue home. The Left Field will cover these subjects, bring local and global politics together and discussing whether the arts, and music in particular can make a difference in raising a voice of protest.’
  • Virtual Migrants
Virtual Migrants was founded in 1998 to bring together a range of artists, particularly those working in visual, music, performance and writing, to collaborate on moving image and new media projects. Its critical purpose is to add new aesthetics and perspectives to themes of race, migration and globalisation, and to draw public attention to expressions of migrants whose existence is held in question and the causes of those political issues which continually make headline news.
  • UHC Collective
Manchester based collective of radical artists and activists.
